
Denny Joe East
IAEGER — Denny Joe East, 35, of Iaeger, formerly of McDowell, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005 from injuries received in a mining accident at the Arjay Mining Co. near Litwar.
Born Aug. 6, 1970 in Bluefield, he was the son of Dennis Eugene East of Pinnacle, N.C. and Shirley Widener of North Wilkesboro, N.C. He was a 1988 graduate of Mt. View High School, he formerly attended the McDowell United Methodist Church, McDowell. He was a coal miner for the past 17 years and had resided in McDowell most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alvah K. East; his maternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Hogan; also several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include: His father, Dennis E. East and wife Sandy of Pinnacle, N.C.; his mother, Shirley Widener of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; one son, Tyler East of Bluefield; one daughter, Brittany East of McDowell; two stepdaughters, Ashley Colo and Alyssa Colo both of Bluefield; his companion, Carla Bailey of Iaeger; one brother, William Clyde “Billy” East and wife Pam of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three sisters, Kristy East of Bluefield, Melissa Winebarger of North Wilkesboro, Priscilla East of Pinnacle; paternal grandmother, Clorine East of McDowell; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, with the Rev. Earl Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.
Friends may call Tuesday night from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home, Northfork.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne East, Jesse East, Ryan Mills, Doug Winebarger, Biddy Gorosky, and Chris Bell.
